Police said a Texas man faces a murder charge in a fatal wreck in Alabama.
Alabama Law Enforcement Agency spokesman Sgt. Steve Jarrett told the Montgomery Advertiser that 36-year-old Jonathan Bradley Varner of San Marcos has been charged with reckless murder.
Jail records show Varner was released from jail after posting $15,000 bond. He couldn't be reached for comment and court records show he didn't have an attorney.
District Attorney Randall Houston said initial evidence shows Varner was driving under the influence at the time of the June 12 crash, which killed 81-year-old Peggy Faulkner Haynes. Authorities are awaiting toxicology test results to see what substances Varner had in his system.
Varner was arrested Monday after treatment at a hospital for injuries suffered in the wreck.
