Technology Allows Parents to Watch Premature Babies

Parents with premature babies can now watch their little ones from anywhere at any time, thanks to Baylor University Medical Center Dallas.

In February, the hospital launched NIC-VIEW, 35 cameras in its neonatal intensive care unit.

"You have a piece of mind that you at least get to see her face," Bob Samuel said of the technology. "It's all live and real time."

Samuel has a 3-month-old daughter in the NICU at Baylor. And he has two more kids at home.

His wife, Letha, is able to work and focus on her baby, too.

"Anytime I'm thinking of her, I can log-in just to see how she's doing," Letha said. "To see her open her eyes or moving or sleeping or resting."

The Samuels were given a secure user name and password. All they needed was an internet connection.

The program is free thanks to an anonymous donation.

Baylor hopes to add more cameras in the future so all parents can experience the comfort the Samuels get to enjoy.
