Surveillance video captured a white pickup truck crashing into the front of a gas station near the intersection of Interstate 35E and Fox Avenue at 2:51 a.m. Two masked men then loaded the ATM onto the truck and drove away within minutes.

The ATM was found about 20 miles away near the intersection of Bernal Drive and Tallyho Lane, according to Dallas police. Officers were called to the area for a complaint about noise and they found the ATM and tools nearby. They took one person of interest into custody.

Store owner Remneek Randhawa said his alarm company called him and then police. When he arrived, he found the glass front door shattered and his ATM missing.

"I was like, ‘OK, what happened?,'" he said. “I couldn’t figure out what went wrong."

Randhawa reviewed the surveillance footage and saw the truck back into the store and two men tie a chain or cable around the ATM. It took the culprits three tries just to tip the machine over before loading it onto the truck.

“It was still stuck to the ground, so they were wiggling it around and then they took it out,” Randhawa said.

With a rash of ATM-related crimes in North Texas this year, Randhawa planned to prevent a smash and grab at his store.

“We started the work last week so we can put in the metal posts so they can’t back up in a car,” he said. “Guess it’s a little late.”
