Superior Crude to Pay $1.6M Oil Spill Penalty

Federal regulators say Superior Crude Gathering Inc. has agreed to pay a $1.6 million civil penalty over a 2010 oil storage tanks spill in South Texas.

The Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Department of Justice said the consent decree was filed Wednesday.

Investigators said more than 92,000 gallons of crude oil spilled from a Super Crude facility at Ingleside, near Corpus Christi, in February 2010. Oil from two tanks flowed into a lake and wetlands. Most of the crude was captured and contained.

Regulators alleged violations of the federal Clean Water Act.

Super Crude has ceased operations at the facility, located within the former Falcon Refinery.
