State-of-the-Art Center Opening at Plano Park

A new center in Plano is combining technology and nature, and people who helped design it also had a hand in a visitor center at One World Trade Center in New York.

The Nature and Retreat Center will be the first thing visitors see at Oak Point Park located on Los Rios Boulevard.

The $5.5 million facility features space for events along with a state-of-the-art interactive exhibit.

"This exhibit is a tabletop interactive exhibit where people can actually learn about the history of the park that really make this part of Plano, this park special," said Recreation Superintendent Ron Smith.

The center was paid for by a bond voters passed in 2005.

It took longer to build than planned because of the recession, but the facility opens to the public Friday at 8 a.m.
