The search for a missing Plano man has ended after police found the body of Gregory Hugh Pierce inside his vehicle on Saturday evening.

Plano police spokesman David Tilley said it appears Pierce died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Pierce was reported missing by his family and co-workers on Dec. 11 and had last spoken with his family on Dec. 9 when he told his sister he felt ill and was going to see a doctor, police said.

Pierce never made that appointment and also had missed work without calling his employer.

A citizen who heard about the disappearance on the news found Pierce and called police, Tilley said.

Pierce leaves behind a 14-year-old daughter his sister said he adored.
