Police Fatally Shoot Man in Standoff Outside Arlington Car Dealership

Arlington police fatally shot a man during a standoff outside a downtown car dealership Thursday afternoon, a police spokesman said.[[422042494,C]]

Officers said the man walked into Galaxy Auto Sales on 600 block of East Front Street and demanded to speak with the owner Thursday afternoon.

The man was later sitting inside a car parked outside and refused to get out, according to police.

Officers believed the man was armed and called in the SWAT team. 

Arlington police confirm, as SWAT members approached the vehicle, the man opened fire, shooting at officers. They returned fire, striking the man. He was then loaded into an ambulance. He died a short time later at a hospital, police said. His identity has not been released.

The business was evacuated. 

Division Street between Truman and Collins streets were closed for a while due to the incident.
