Police: Man Attacked His Mother, Stepfather

Officers say the man choked his mother, then tried to push her down the stairs

Dallas police say they arrested a man Monday morning for attacking his own mother and stepfather.

Officers said the man, identified by police as 21-year-old Juan Medrano, choked his mother, then tried to push her down the stairs. He’s also accused of attacking his stepfather.

The fight started just before 11 p.m. Sunday at Meadows North Condominiums on the 8000-block of Meadows Road, and sparked a SWAT standoff.

Police said the parents accused the son of stealing tools from the family business. The mom told police that her son got so mad that he wrapped both hands around her neck, strangled her until she couldn’t breathe, then tried to shove her down the stairs.

Investigators said Medrano ran out of the complex and confronted his stepfather in the parking lot and is accused of ramming his car into his stepdad’s car. Police said the men also got into a physical fight.

Police said Medrano then retreated to the apartment and barricaded himself inside. Officers learned he had access to a gun, so the SWAT team moved in. He managed to slip out before police surrounded the complex. Officers say they found Medrano, reportedly intoxicated, in a breezeway. Police said he resisted arrest and that a stun gun was used to put him in custody.

Police said the man is in jail facing four charges for strangulation and assault.
