The scene of a fatal crash between a car and a pedestrian along Interstate 30, Dec. 27, 2013.

A pedestrian was struck and killed by a vehicle along the westbound lanes of Interstate 30 east of Downtown Dallas Friday afternoon.

The collision took place on I-30 between St. Francis Avenue and Loop 12, just west of the I-30, U.S. 80 split.

The westbound lanes of I-30 are closed in the area while the crash is investigated.

The pedestrian has been identified as 33-year-old James Dale Collins.

Detective Miguel Hernandez with the Dallas Sheriff Vehicle Crimes Unit says Collins was living in the hotel across the street from the incident.

He walked to the Wal-Mart on the opposite side of the highway to buy groceries, but did not walk across the St. Francis overpass. Collins instead walked along I-30 during rush hour traffic when the he was struck.
