‘Operation Crackdown' Demolishes Abandoned House in Dallas

An ongoing effort to demolish abandoned structures now believed to be a home for illegal activity continued Thursday in Dallas.

The Texas National Guard teamed up with the city of Dallas to demolish a home on the 2000 block of Bombay Avenue in "Operation Crackdown."

The Texas National Guard invited several school children from nearby Obadiah Knight Elementary School to witness the demolition as part of its anti-drug education mission.

Approximately 30 structures connected with illegal activity are scheduled for demolition, organizers said, in the counter-drug task force program.

The program began in 1993 and uses federal drug forfeiture funds to pay for demolitions across the state. Since that time, the guard has demolished more than 1,200 structures in 24 communities across the state.
