Woman Killed in Dallas House Fire

Fire breaks out in Fair Park home

A woman was overcome by smoke and killed in a fire in Dallas early Friday morning, officials say.

Dallas Fire Rescue arrived at the home on the 2800-block of Hatcher Street just before 8 a.m. and reported a lot of fire coming from the garage of the residence.

Firefighters began immediately attacking the fire and quickly were met by the residents who said there was someone still trapped inside the garage, which had been converted into a bedroom.

When they rolled open the garage door, firefighters found a woman lying near the door who had apparently been trying to escape. Firefighters pulled her away from the flames, but she was already dead, officials said.

Roommates of the woman revealed her identity as 48-year-old Indiria Silas. The other three occupants of the home, who were able to escape without injury, are receiving assistance from the Red Cross.

Investigators have determined the fire started in the garage, but they have not yet said what started the fire.

NBC 5's Keaton Fox contributed to this report.
