Oasis Floating Restaurant Set To Reopen, Again

Rain could again delay efforts to reopen restaurant on Joe Pool Lake

The third time might be the charm for the Oasis at Joe Pool Lake.

The floating restaurant at Lynn Creek Marina is set to reopen March 1, for the third time in the last year.

"Come rain or shine, yeah, we'll be here next Tuesday putting out the best product we can," said Matthew Ducey, the restaurant's assistant general manager.

Heavy rains and high water kept the restaurant closed for much of the past year, since the middle of last May. It reopened briefly in September, then again in late November, only to close again both times.

"We've been here 25 years, and rain's never been an issue," said Lynn Creek Marina owner Larry Walker. "But now, every time it rains everybody's got their antennae up a little bit higher than they had before."

With rain once again in the forecast, they are keeping their fingers crossed.

"It's about the start raining all night, maybe all the way into tomorrow afternoon, and we have no idea how much rain is coming, how high the lake's going to be tomorrow. All we can do is hope and pray that it stays low enough to where we can stay open," said the Oasis' Matt Stepanian.

The restaurant staff used the downtime well, repairing and renovating the restaurant and changing up the menu.
