North Texas Contractor Killed in Afghanistan

Jarod Cravens was from Cedar Hill

A North Texas man was one of several Americans killed in an attack in Afghanistan over the weekend.

Family members said Jarod Cravens, 32, served as a Marine for eight years. He was back in Afghanistan serving as a contractor when a suicide bomber attacked his convoy.

Cravens was back in North Texas as recently as last week, when he took his two children to the State Fair of Texas and attended Game 4 of the World Series.

Cravens' mother, Sandra McGill, said her son was hoping to return to Texas for good next summer. He wanted to become a teacher and open a gym for underprivileged children, she said.

Family members are in the process of planning Cravens' funeral.
