New Gym in Wylie Offers Free Physical, Spiritual Fitness

Fitness is a passion for Jacob and Lauren Davis, and they took a leap of faith by quitting their job to open their own gym in Wyllie about two years ago.

But their gym is a little different. Members of the Strong Heart Fitness Ministry don't have sign a contact or even pay a dime.

“A lot of people thought we were crazy because we built this model based upon donations,” said Jacob.

At their gym, it's not about making money and it's more than just getting physically fit.

“It’s been really cool to see God working and growing this idea of taking not just fitness, but adding that spiritual element to it,” said Jacob.

It’s an element they wanted to add to help others become more spiritually fit and they want to share that with anyone willing to listen. The two preaching the Gospel and praying during workouts at the gym.

It was their faith that helped them open the gym, but the inspiration came at one of the most difficult times of their lives.

“Our daughter was born three years ago in June and unexpectedly had a congenital heart defect,” said Lauren.

Their 3-year-old daughter, Aleece, had three open heart surgeries. The latest in July and today she is healthier than ever before.

“They [doctors] said that she's a miracle and she barely has any sign of heart disease left,” said Lauren.

It was Aleece's strength, her parent’s faith and divine intervention that brought all this together for the Davises.
