The dedication of the new Rees-Jones Child Development Center at One Safe Place at 1100 Hemphill Street in Fort Worth took place Tuesday. The new center will help thousands of children in Tarrant County.

The mission of One Safe Place is to help victims of domestic violence, but children who witness that violence also need help as well.

"If we don't intervene with those children then they will experience all kinds of health implications today," Safe City Commission executive director Ken Shetter said. "They will experience behavioral issues. They are more likely to have problems academically."

The Rees-Jones Development Center is a full-service child care facility that can serve more than 70 children at a time. The center began accepting children in January and, by this summer, they think it will be at full capacity.

The Rees-Jones Foundation works to defend the welfare of children suffering from abuse or neglect. The center provides children opportunities for enrichment and character development.
