Several immigrants have been treated for dehydration after 10 men were rescued from a closed bin aboard a northbound freight train in Texas.
New Braunfels police received a 911 call Tuesday morning from one of the smuggled travelers on the train. Communications coordinator David Ferguson says police contacted Union Pacific and the 80-car train was stopped.
Police say the men from Mexico apparently slipped aboard in Laredo, about 185 southwest of New Braunfels, and were bound for Austin. Forecasters say temperatures were in the upper 80s when the immigrants were rescued.
Emergency personnel examined all of the men, with several treated for dehydration. All ten are in the custody of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. Their names and further details on their conditions weren't immediately available.
