Motorcycle Rider Killed Trying to Elude Police

Passenger in critical condition after crash

One person is dead and another critically injured after a motorcycle rider tried to elude police during a traffic stop.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, a Texas State Trooper tried to stop a motorcycle with rider and his passenger early Thursday morning along U.S. Highway 380 near Loop 288, but the rider sped away instead of pulling over.

DPS officials said the rider, whose identity has not yet been revealed, turned south on to Sherman Drive from Loop 288 and was cut off by a van pulling out of a neighborhood.

The van caused the rider to cross the double-yellow line and ride into oncoming traffic.  The rider then collided with a pickup truck at Kings Row and both the rider and passenger were thrown from the motorcycle.

The motorcycle rider, a 41-year-old man who was not wearing a helmet, died at the scene.  The passenger, who was wearing a helmet, survived and was transported to Denton Regional Medical Center in critical condition.

The driver of the pickup suffered minor injuries and was not hospitalized.
