Mesquite police are searching for the person who shot and killed a man in a strip mall parking lot Tuesday morning.

Witnesses told NBC5 they had never seen the man before, and he was not a customer at the nearby 7-Eleven.

Detectives spent hours canvassing the parking lot and collecting statements from witnesses and residents of a nearby apartment complex.

Police also checked surveillance cameras hoping to catch a glimpse of the suspect before he ran away.

No arrests have been made and police say this is an active investigation.
