Arrest Made in Strangulation Death Near TCU

Police name suspect in the strangulation death

Fort Worth police have made an arrest in the strangulation murder of Molly Matheson. She was discovered dead inside her home near Texas Christian University's campus on April 10.

Fort Worth officers assigned to the U.S. Marshal's Task Force arrested 23-year-old Reginald Kimbro on Thursday at his father's house in Dallas. He's charged with murder and was held Friday in the Mansfield Jail on a $500,000 bond.

Matheson's parents told NBC 5 the young woman knew Kimbro slightly from her time as a student at the University of Arkansas.

Investigators said there were no signs of forced entry into Matheson's home. Her mother found her strangled to death in a bathroom of the garage apartment she rented near TCU.

Police are saying this was not a random crime, but that Kimbro and Matheson were not dating. They are still investigating and ask anyone with information on any other crimes Kimbro may have committed to contact Fort Worth police Detective Sullivan at 817-392-4340.

Matheson's parents are not ready to speak about the arrest on camera, but her father, David Matheson, released the following statement Friday:

"We would like to thank the Fort Worth Police Department and all the detectives involved in Molly's case. We know that they were very diligent in their investigation which led to the arrest. This has been an overwhelmingly trying time for our family and we are confident that justice will be served for Molly."

Molly Matheson graduated from Timber Creek High School in Keller in 2012. On social media, classmates have called her a beautiful soul.

Her parents said this arrest is the first step in the right direction.
