Low-Lying Flood Pool in Cameron County to be Drained

Texas county to drain flood waters

A low-lying flood pool in South Texas will be drained after causing high-water problems during Hurricane Dolly in 2008.

The Valley Morning Star reported Monday that improvements are in store for Tio Cano Lane in Cameron County.

For years, storm water has accumulated in the natural basin just north of La Feria. The situation got worse after Hurricane Dolly, flooding the area for several months and leaving a roadway inundated.

Officials say the stagnant water will soon be funneled out of the basin, to help prevent flooding, as part of $6.5 million in drainage projects.

La Feria is using state grant money to drain the area. Water will be pumped to a regional floodway.
