Lake Businesses Taking Extra Measures to Accommodate Boaters

Many people want to head to area lakes this Fourth of July weekend, but some lakes are more accessible than others.

All Army Corps Of Engineers Facilities are closed at Lake Lewisville and Lake Grapevine. That means many public slips are not accessible, but some marinas are open.

At Pier 121 in Lewisvillle, there is a floating dock that runs through the flooded parking lot, so anyone who has a slip there can head out on the water.

Kelly and Leslie Walker of Carrollton just made the plunge and rented a slip.

"It is probably worth it to us. We have a boat that we make a payment on, and we can't go out to the lake, so, I mean, I might as put a little money in it and be out on the lake," said Kelly Walker.

And one business that's doing well at the Marina is Marine Max Dallas Yacht Center. Boat sales are up.

"A lot of the lakes that were unusable like Granbury, Possum Kingdom, Ray Hubbard now are full of water, are right at conservation level. So there has been a lot of pent up demand in those areas so those people are buying," said Franklin Pillsbury.

At Silver Lake Marina on Lake Grapevine, they are busy, too. The owners there have a floating dock to get out to the marina, so boaters are able to get out on the water,

"I love it. I think it is very kind of them to provide something so we can access our boats, and get some water time in," said Bill Vickers.
