A 7-month-old horse valued at $20,000 was shot and killed on a ranch west of Weatherford, Parker County Sheriff Larry Fowler said Monday.

The filly, named “Bald-Face Lie,” was shot in the forehead with a high-powered rifle.

She was discovered Sunday morning in a pasture on the 72 Ranch, about five miles west of Weatherford.

The owners of the ranch said the filly was bred from “Light N Lena” and “Playboy’s Special Copy,” a champion line of professional cutters.

“I don’t understand how someone could do something like this,” said owner Kris Larsen.

The sheriff said investigating the shooting is a top priority.

“We won’t tolerate this behavior in our community,” Fowler said.

Parker County Crime Stoppers is offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and indictment of the shooter. The ranch owners are also offering an additional $1,000 reward.
