One Killed in Shootout With Irving Police

Officers reportedly confronted by suspect

Police in Irving are investigating an overnight gunfight between officers and an armed man.

According to a police statement, Irving officers were called to the Brookstone Apartments on the 3700-block of Block Drive at about 1 a.m. Sunday.

At the apartments, officers found an adult male, whose name has not been released, with a gunshot wound.  He was transported to Parkland Hospital in stable condition.

While investigating that shooting, officers learned the gunman may have still been in the area.  While trying to set up a permeter, an armed man confronted officers.

There was an initial exchange of gunfire and then officers took cover while awaiting back up from tactical units.

After backup arrived, officers found the second man injured with apparent gunshot wounds.  The man, whose name has not been released, died at the scene.
