A group of fourth grade students in the Wylie Independent School District has a lot to be proud of after raising money to help an injured dog get the medical help she desperately needed.
Bilal, Krish and Leo are fourth graders at Tibbals Elementary School in Murphy where they learned through their math teacher, Bree Dozier, about Zoe, a female beagle mix who was recently rescued from a shelter where she was recovering from a broken leg and cuts and bruises.
Facing the prospect of a long recovery, or worse, Zoe was removed from the shelter by the League of Animal Protectors and taken to the group's veterinary team, where she was diagnosed with a fracture in her front right leg.
Despite her numerous injuries Zoe maintained her sweet demeanor and nuzzled her caregivers while being evaluated by the vet team. Zoe's leg break was determined to be severe and she needed the help of a veterinary specialist who mended her broken leg and placed pins in her leg so that it healed properly.
Bilal, Krish and Leo raised $642 by money selling school supplies to fellow students at Tibbals Elementary and donated that money to L.A.P. to help offset the cost of Zoe's surgery.
Zoe is now rehabilitating with a foster family until she is healthy enough to be adopted.
