Southbound I-35E Closed Overnight Friday in Dallas

Construction on the Dallas Horseshoe Project is scheduled to continue Friday night with a full closure of Interstate 35E.

The closure begins at 10 p.m. Friday and wraps up 12 hours later on Saturday morning.

"Yes, that's going to be hectic. Real hectic," said commuter, Anthony Williams, as he stopped for gas off I-35E Friday evening. "I'll be glad when they're done, but that's going to be crazy tonight!"

The shutdown is required to construct new bridges as part of the $798 million project to rebuild the interchange between I-35E and Interstate 30.

Fuel City sits in the shadow of the Horseshoe Project. Up to 7,000 people a day come through there on a weekend for gas, tacos and music that blares through the lot. They called the closure more of a 'headwind.'

"They might close," said cashier Carla Esparza. "But people are going to find a way to get here because it's Fuel City."

During the closure, southbound traffic on I-35E will be forced to take a detour using the Woodall Rodgers Freeway toward U.S. 75 and Interstate 45. Traffic on eastbound I-30 will also have to use that detour.

Southbound traffic looking to head toward Fort Worth on westbound I-30 will not be impacted, as those lanes will remain open.

Traffic looking to continue south on I-35E will have to go west on I-30 from I-45.

Northbound traffic will not be impacted.

"The area is really bad. It seems like they've been working on it forever," said commuter Christie Young.

She said she'll be happy when the project is finished.

"Hopefully you can get to work easily," Young said. " They're doing all this, you should be able to!"

All work on I-35E should be wrapped up by 10 a.m. Saturday. There will also be lane closures on Riverfront Boulevard at I-30 from 9 p.m. Saturday through 6 a.m. Sunday.
