Homeless Man Gets 60 Years in Baby's Death

A homeless man befriended by a family has been sentenced to 60 years in prison after pleading guilty to murder in the death of their 9-month-old son.

The Victoria Advocate reports that 34-year-old Spencer Clay Butler entered the plea Wednesday at the Goliad County courthouse. Paul McAdams died of blunt force trauma to his head in April 2014 while staying at his grandmother's house in Goliad, located about 26 miles west of Victoria.

The boy had been left with Butler while the grandmother and the child's father, 24-year-old Zachary McAdams, left to deliver newspapers. At the time, the child's mother was at a medical center.

McAdams' was arrested in July on a warrant charging him with abandoning or endangering his son on the day he died.
