Halloween is now a "No Refusal" weekend in Tarrant County.
If you're unfamiliar with the term, that means law enforcement will use search warrants to draw blood from motorists who refuse a breath test after being arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated.
For the first time, law enforcement officers across Tarrant County will provide extra enforcement over Halloween beginning at 9:30 p.m. Friday night and will run through 5:30 a.m. Sunday.
"Don't allow your Halloween celebration to turn into a real nightmare," said Assistant District Attorney Richard Alpert. "Have a designated driver and drink responsibly."
The district attorney's office said those who are arrested and charged with DWI during a No Refusal weekend will not only face fines and possible jail time, thye'll have their names and ages published on the DA's website.
Nine no-refusal weekends in Tarrant County are funded by $311,933 in grants that pay for the extra hours officers work on enforcement. Halloween is the newest designation, along with every weekend during the upcoming Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo.
