Governor-Elect Greg Abbott One-on-One With NBC 5

In six days, Greg Abbott will become the 48th Governor of Texas. He will take the oath of office at the capitol in Austin.

Wednesday in Austin, NBC 5 political Reporter Julie Fine talked with Abbott about how he feels right before he takes office.

“The thing that goes through my head is the incredible responsibility of ensuring we keep Texas on the right track, so I think of all the jobs and tasks that I have to fulfill,” said Governor-Elect Abbott.

Abbott says his family looks forward to moving into the Governor’s mansion, and that Mrs. Abbott will take on a variety of causes, including homelessness and mental health issues. He says she will be a tremendous first lady

“One of the surprises of the campaign is that she really embraced it, but looking at it twice, you realize she is a person of great warmth,” he added.

Abbott will work with a republican controlled house and senate. He says he has already reached out to democrats.

“We need better schools. We need to build better roads. We need to secure our border, and we need to continue to grow jobs. Those aren’t republican and democrat issues. Those are issues everybody rallies behind,” said Abbott
