Girl Fighting Cancer Delivers Cheer to Fellow Patients

A little girl's battle with cancer inspired a brighter Christmas for hundreds of North Texas kids

It is delivery day at Children's Medical Center. On Thursday a moving truck arrived at the hospital to drop off a load of toys.

Each toy was donated and inspired by 8-year-old Sadie Keller.

"I only thought I was going to get 200 toys but we went way past that," said a delighted Sadie.

Earlier this month Sadie posted her Christmas wish on YouTube. She wanted every kid battling cancer and stuck in the hospital to receive presents on Christmas morning.

Her sweet message inspired the donation of 1200 toys from family, friends and strangers across North Texas.

"I want to thank them them all for helping," said Sadie.

Delivering the toys was a rare happy day at the hospital for the Keller family. Sadie's medical mask and short hair are reminders of the cancer that's invaded her body.

"Before Sadie got diagnosed we use to be like any other family," said her older brother Grant. "Now that Sadie's diagnosed she's doing all these great things for people at the hospital."

With no treatment on this day, Grant and Sadie are free to laugh and play with Sadie's favorite caretaker, Caitlin Arndt and her therapy dog, Blair.

It's the pair's job to comfort Sadie as she undergoes chemotherapy for leukemia at the hospital, but as many have learned it's Sadie who brings comfort to others.

"It's my wish that everybody could be like her and cope so well" said child life specialist Caitlin Arndt.

"She never thinks about herself or all of the things she's going through. She never thinks about coming to the hospital every week and having to get poked and proded. She's always thinking about other ways she can help the patients and staff. She's really special."

Children's Medical Center said this time of year is their busiest. All beds in the oncology department are full, so Sadie's donated toys will ensure every child wakes up to presents on Christmas morning.
