Father Accused of Blowing Marijuana Smoke in Child's Face

An Irving father is facing felony charges after police say he blew marijuana smoke into his child's face last week outside a Dallas restaurant.

Reyes Alvarez-Martinez, 27, is charged with driving while under the influence of drugs, endangering a child and driving with an invalid license.

Investigators said the alleged incident happened Friday outside the Wings Stop on the 1500 block of South Buckner.

Now, his girlfriend, Leticia Rodriguez, says the court will not allow Alvarez-Martinez around their family. Together, the couple has four children.

"Now he can't come around my kids. My kids always cry [and] say they need their dad," said Rodriguez.

Court documents obtained by our partners at The Dallas Morning News show witnesses called police and told officers Alvarez-Martinez was "holding a small child in one arm and smoking a joint in another."

"It's really hurting my kids, and me, too, because I mean that destroyed my family, out of somebody that just gave a report with no evidence," said Rodriguez.

Court documents say officers asked Alvarez-Martinez if he had been smoking. The first time he denied it. The second time, the affidavit says, he "recanted and stated that he had just smoked some, but very little."

"No way that is true," said Rodriguez. "My kids love him. I have two girls with him, and two boys of my own that love him. He's a good father to me."

For now, the children are with Rodriguez in Dallas, while Alvarez-Martinez stays with family in Irving.

No court date has been set yet.
