El Paso to Deed 600 Acres to Franklin Mountains State Park

Property along the foothills of Franklin Mountains

El Paso leaders have approved a plan to add about 600 acres to Franklin Mountains State Park.

The El Paso City Council voted Tuesday to deed the property to the state. City staffers say the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department has better resources to oversee and maintain the land.

The property, which had been the subject of possible development, is along the foothills of the Franklin Mountains.

The state park was created by the 1979 Texas Legislature.
