DeSoto Police Searching for Man for Attempted Robbery

Man flees after store clerk sets off the silent alarm

DeSoto police are searching for a man they say attempted to rob a convenience store.

Police said that a man attempted to rob an Exxon store at 809 South Interstate 35E Service Road at about 10:30 p.m. on Jan. 27.

DeSoto police said the man entered the store a few minutes before he tried to rob the gas station and asked the clerk if the air machine was working. The man then went back outside and stayed in his car for several minutes.

When the man reentered the store, the clerk said that he had his hand in his jacket pocket as if he was concealing a gun. Police said the man told the clerk to give him the money in the register. The man walked behind the counter to confront the clerk and noticed that the clerk had hit the silent alarm.

Police said that the man left the store in a white sedan and drove south once he saw that the silent alarm had been triggered.

DeSoto police said that at about 11:30 p.m. the Hutchins Police Department contacted them and said they had a robbery occur with a man of similar description.
