A plan to hire hundreds of new Dallas police officers at once may not happen, according to a memo from Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings.
Rawlings sent a note to City Council members Monday night, saying the plan to hire 549 new officers may be phased in over a three-year period.
The mayor says this new proposal may be more sustainable as the city works to increase the number of officers.
The hiring plan would cost more than $20 million.
Dallas City Manager A.C. Gonzalez is expected to update the City Council on hiring plans next week.
