Dallas Mayor Pledges Money to Accelerate South Dallas Growth

The city of Dallas is stepping up its efforts to build up south Dallas businesses, restaurants and shopping centers.

Mayor Mike Rawlings hopes to replicate the great success seen in recent years at “The Cedars” and “Trinity Groves” areas in neighborhoods further south.

On Friday morning, Rawlings and Citi Community Development pledged $500,000 to support the non-profit group Neighbor Up, a company dedicated to accelerating growth in Lancaster Corridor, Education Corridor, and the Parkdale and Urbandale neighborhoods of Dallas.

"Southern Dallas is an investment opportunity and people want to invest here. We’ve got to make it easier and faster," said Rawlings. "I think once families realize middle-class housing is going to be built, the shopping centers are going to come, and then ultimately people will come."

The organization has three managers to strategically invest in and improve the quality of south Dallas neighborhoods.
