Dallas ISD Hotline Offers Back to School Guidance

Parents with questions about the first day of school in the Dallas Independent School District have a number to call.

During the first two weeks of school about a dozen people will be answering the phones at the Transportation Services Parent Hotline, at 972-925-4953, from 6:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. primarily fielding questions about bus routes, pick up times and pick up locations.

“We’re also helping with general questions, such as what school that student may be assigned to, where that school may be located, anything we can do to help parents be ready for the first day," said André Riley, director, Dallas ISD news and information.

A separate number is available for more general questions.

The Dallas ISD’s Back-to-School Hotline 972-925-5437, is available from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Aug. 24-25, then from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Aug. 26-28.

Dallas ISD has 227 schools, 161,000 students and 800 bus drivers who make about 2,300 runs each day.

But even with more than 10,000 teachers, the Dallas ISD will begin the first week of school about 150 teachers short.

“We won’t be 100 percent staffed, but we’ve worked hard through this spring and through this summer to have as many of our vacancies filled as possible,” said Riley. “We still have some work to do from the first day and beyond but many of our students will have a qualified, effective teacher in front of them on day one”.

Four new schools open this week, including the Innovation, Design and Entrepreneurship Academy on Ross Avenue, which will welcome a class of 100 high school freshmen.

“Our schools are ready, our teachers are ready and our staff is ready,” said Riley.
