Connecticut Trooper Killed in Texas Hunting Accident

Connecticut state police say a veteran trooper has died after being shot during a hunting trip in Texas.

Trooper 1st Class Stephen Davis of Hebron, Connecticut, a 27-year veteran, died Saturday on the Cinco Ranch in Maverick County, Texas.

The Maverick County sheriff's department says the 50-year-old Davis was hit by a shot fired by another hunter, who told authorities he was attempting to shoot a wild hog.

The office did not indicate whether charges would be filed and did not immediately respond to a message seeking comment on Tuesday.

Davis began his career with the state police in 1988. He worked out of the Troop C barracks in Tolland.

Cinco Ranch is about 20 miles west of Houston.
