Charges Dropped Against 2 in Southwest Airlines Flight Disturbance

Charges have been dropped against two of six people arrested after a disturbance aboard a Southwest Airlines flight that led to an unscheduled landing in Amarillo.

A federal criminal complaint had accused the six of interfering with a flight crew and aiding and abetting others aboard the Aug. 31 flight from San Diego to Chicago, prompting the unscheduled landing.

However, a federal magistrate in Amarillo granted a prosecution request Thursday to dismiss charges against Saiman Hermez and Ghazwan Asaad Shaba "in the interest of justice." Cases against Jonathan Khalid Petras, Essa Solaqa, Khalid Yohana and Wisam Imad Shaker were consolidated.

An affidavit had said the six became disruptive and refused to comply with instructions by flight attendants, behaved loudly and aggressively, and used obscene language.
