Cedar Hill Lock Down Lifted After Bomb Threat

Text threat leads to lock down Wednesday morning

A lock down at Cedar Hill High School has been lifted after the threat of a possible bomb in the area was received Wednesday morning.

School officials were given the all clear at about 12:30 p.m. Classes will resume an abbreviated schedule Wednesday afternoon and school will be dismissed at the normal time, the district tweeted Wednesday.

On their Twitter account, the Cedar Hill Independent School District said the school was placed on lock down as a precaution after school intelligence "intercepted a text message indicating a possible bomb threat in the area." The lock down went into effect at about 8:10 a.m. and was lifted shortly after 12:30 p.m.

The texting was between high school-aged students, one of which went to the police with the information who then shared it with the school district, according to Tim Lewis, with Cedar Hill High School.

It is not clear who made the threat and Lewis wasn't able to confirm if a particular part of the campus was targeted.

Lewis said students were not evacuated and remained in the building while investigators searched the campus with bomb-sniffing dogs. Some students were taking a four-hour SAAR End of Course exam at the time.  While officials checked those rooms, the testing was stopped and resumed after the room was cleared, officials said.

Students who were scheduled to test Wednesday, who were also not allowed to enter the building after the lock down was in place, will be allowed to make up tests later this week.
