Bodies of 8 Dogs Found in Texas Creek

The bloated carcasses of eight dogs have been found in a Northeast Texas creek and authorities say scars and cuts indicate they were used for dog fighting.

Most of the animals were pit bulls used for fighting while the others were mixed breeds, including two small ones likely used as "bait" dogs.

The Longview News-Journal reports some of the bodies were found Friday in garbage bags. The animals may have been in the creek for as long as a week. The creek is south of Gilmer, which is about 100 miles east of Dallas.

Upshur County Constable Gene Dolle described the cruelty involved in the deaths as "mind-boggling."

He says the discovery coupled with the smell was nauseating.

Authorities are seeking the public's help in identifying suspects.
