Austin has begun crafting a long-term plan for nearly 100 acres on the south-central shore of Lady Bird Lake.
City officials will host a panel discussion Tuesday night with two design experts -- Harris Steinberg and John Fregonese -- about waterfront plans done in other cities.
The Austin American-Statesman the plan could outline possible development for Lady Bird Lake over the next 20 years. Most of the 97 acres are privately owned.
City planner Alan Holt says a lot of the structures were built for a 1960s, auto-oriented era and they don't make much sense anymore.
Kevin Lewis with the Bouldin Creek Neighborhood Association says he doesn't want to see downtown Austin continue unabated across the river and into neighborhoods.
