Additional Multi-Lane Roundabouts Planned in Frisco

The population boom in Frisco comes with challenges.

To help alleviate congestion on the roads, the city of Frisco built a multi-lane roundabout or traffic circle at Gaylord and John Hickman Parkway, located near the Star.

The project was completed in the summer.

"A roundabout is much safer than your typical intersection," said Frisco Assistant Director of Transportation Brian Moen. "If you have a collision in a roundabout, it's going to be much slower. It's typically going to be a side swipe, so it's only going to result in property damage. In a signal intersection, if somebody runs a red light and you get 't-boned,' not only do you have major damage to the vehicle, but you probably have injuries as well."

There are two multi-lane roundabouts in Frisco, one is under construction, and three are in the design phase, Moen said.

The city of Frisco currently has more than 20 single-lane roundabouts in operation, primarily in residential neighborhoods.
