First-responders were called to the two-alarm fire at the Woodside Villas Apartments in the 3400 block of West Rochelle Road just after 1 p.m. Sunday. Authorities said a second alarm was activated amid reports of trapped residents.

Firefighters were able to rescue four people who were trapped on a balcony, according to Irving fire spokesman Rusty Wilson.

The fire was brought under control after about 30 minutes. At least two units were destroyed in the blaze, with additional units damaged from smoke.

Brianna Smith told NBC 5 that she was having trouble getting her stove to work while trying to prepare food. She then left the apartment for a brief amount of time before returning to see her posessions in flames.

"The next thing I know I saw flames coming through the living room," Smith said. She and other neighbors immediately called 911 while trying to spread word of the fire.

Firefighters listed the incident as an accidental cooking fire that started around the stove.

Authorities said no one was hurt in the incident. The Red Cross had a team stationed at the scene to help families displaced by the fire.
