3 East Texas College Students Killed in Crash

Three college students were killed in an early morning fiery crash in Nacogdoches Monday, officers said.[[381314781,C]]

According to police, the crash happened in the 2400 block of East Starr Avenue near the intersection of Glen Hollow Street at about 1:30 a.m.

Chace Scruggs and three passengers were traveling east in a 2007 Dodge Charger on Starr Avenue when his vehicle left the road and struck several trees, police said. The vehicle then caught fire and burned. People in another vehicle saw the crash and called 911.

Scruggs, Geena Zarick and Rajeen "Ray" Williams were pronounced dead at the scene. A fourth person, Trent Haynes, was transported to a local hospital in serious condition. All of the victims were enrolled at Stephen F. Austin University.

Police are continuing to investigate the cause of the crash.
