American Airlines' board is reportedly meeting this week to discuss a possible merger.
Reuters is reporting an announcement of a merger with US Airways could come within the next two weeks.
American's board is said to be meeting Monday and Tuesday talk options.
The airline has been working to restructure since it filed for bankruptcy in November of 2011.
In the past, AA leaders have said they want to emerge from bankruptcy as an independent company, but, they have been in what they call "active talks" with US Airways to consider combining forces.
Pilots unions have already released agreements to the possible merger.
Earlier reports pegged the announcement date to be around Jan. 8, but a requested three-week delay pushed the decision into this last week of January.
