The American Red Cross North Texas Region is expanding its ability to connect with people during disasters with a new Digital Operations Center.
Called DigiDoc, the center is a social media command center based in the Dallas Area Chapter that allows the Red Cross to monitor social conversations before and during disasters to help anticipate disaster needs and connect more people with resources during an emergency.
Volunteers are trained to look for key words and phrases during emergencies, varying from wildfires to severe weather. The monitoring will help the organization better pinpoint neighborhoods in need.
The command center will also help the organization reach people who turn to social media for help like emergency shelter or finding a loved one.
The American Red Cross in Dallas is the first location to receive the innovative technology outside of the national headquarters in Washington, D.C.
