American Airlines has formalized plans to relocate its maintenance operations center and 230 jobs from Tulsa, Okla., to its main hub of Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport.

American on Wednesday said the integration of the maintenance control technicians, in a move to improve efficiency, will take place by fall 2012.

Tulsa leaders and officials with the Transport Workers Union had urged American not to move the operations center, which talks to mechanics and pilots about any maintenance issues.

The DFW systems operation control facility works with pilots on issues such as fuel loads, weight and balance and other operating factors.

The carrier operates the world's largest maintenance base in Tulsa, with nearly 7,000 employees.
