Usher Awarded Primary Custody of Sons

R&B superstar granted primary care following legal battle with ex-wife Tameka Foster.

Usher has been granted primary custody of his two sons following a bitter court battle between the R&B star and his ex-wife Tameka Foster, reports the Atlanta Journal Constitution.

Usher (full name Usher Raymond), 33, and Foster, 41, had a co-parenting agreement for 4-year-old Usher Raymond V and 3-year-old Naviyd before the "Yeah" singer filed for sole custody, claiming Foster was an unfit mother.

"Both parties will have joint legal custody. Usher will have primary physical custody," said Cherrise Boone, spokeswoman for the Fulton Superior Court Clerk's office in Georgia following the ruling, Friday.

According to the AJC, Foster "begged" Usher to withdraw his petition numerous times throughout the hearing, saying "You know your kids are fine. They're happy. They're productive. ... Maybe I don't do everything perfectly, but I do the best I can."

Foster's statements were not enough to sway Superior Court Judge Bensonetta Tipton Lane, however. "The father shall have final decision-making authority with respect to all matters concerning the children, including but not limited to education, religion, extracurricular activities, health and mental well-being, but he shall first discuss any major decisions relating to such matters with the mother," Lane wrote in her ruling.

News of the custodial change comes on the heels of the death of Foster's son Kile Glover, who was removed from life support on July 21. The 11-year-old was struck in the head by a personal watercraft while riding an inner tube on Lake Lanier, GA on July 6.

Judge Lane also ordered Usher and Foster - who married in 2007 and divorced in 2009 - to meet monthly with a "co-parenting coordinator."
