Fans missing the wit and wisdom of Tara Lipinski and Johnny Weir in the wake of the Sochi Olympics can take heart: the pair are headed to the Academy Awards.
Come Sunday the pair will find themselves in a tower position high above the red carpet in Hollywood commentating on Oscar style for "Access Hollywood" alongside show host Billy Bush.
Viewers will have to wait until Monday to hear the verdicts of the fashion-forward duo, who will appear in special Academy Awards-based episodes featuring taped segments from the previous day's red carpet pageant.
"We already have people pulling clothes," he told USA Today Sports on Saturday night. "We're going to be ready. And we're going to bring it."
According to the Los Angeles Times, it was Bush who suggested the skating experts turn their gaze from the ice to the red carpet, with the idea coming to him midway through an interview with Weir.
"[Billy] lit up and said, 'You [and Tara] are doing Oscar red carpet for us,'" said Rob Silverstein, the executive producer of "Access Hollywood." "It hadn’t hit me yet, but as soon as Billy mentioned it, I thought it’d be great, so we made a deal with them in a day."
During the run-up to Sunday's celebration of the Hollywood movie industry, "Access Hollywood" cameras will trail Lipinski and Weir as they ready their outfits and polish up on current style trends.
Silverstein told the L.A. Times the pair "know their stuff," and even if they "don’t work for InStyle or Vogue, but they don’t need to. Fashion -- and our show -- is about fun, and they’re fun."
If all goes well, the producer can see a future where the pair of breakout Sochi stars will serve as correspondents for "Access Hollywood" at future major red carpet events.
The 2014 Olympic Winter Games was Lipinski and Weir's first as broadcasters for NBC and NBC Sports Network. The former Olympians became popular with viewers during the telecast for their insightful commentary and also their stylish and cutting-edge ensembles.
"Access Hollywood" and NBC are both part of the NBCUniversal family.
