Fallon Portrays Tom Petty, Talks Rock ‘n' Roll With Nirvana

Fallon hits the "Tonight" stage as Tom Petty to keep on with his rock'n'roll themed week.

“The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” continued with its rock-themed week and jammed out with performances by Stevie Nicks and appearances by members of Nirvana.

Introduced by Nirvana’s Dave Grohl and Krist Novoselic, Stevie Nicks and Fallon – portraying Tom Petty – performed the 1981 hit, “Stop Draggin’ My Heart Around.”

Fallon went so far as to recreate the original video with authentic sound equipment, clothing, and he donned a blonde wig while mimicking Petty’s onstage mannerisms.

After the performance, Fallon sat down with the Nirvana band members who will be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame April 10.

"It's also bittersweet, because our friend Kurt's been gone for 20 years," Novoselic said, referencing late band member Kurt Cobain. "He should be here."

The "Smell’s Like Teen Spirit" singers also reminisced about favorite touring moments including Cobain intentionally destroying an old drum set during a Nirvana show so Grohl could get a new one.

Nicks, inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1998, also performed her classic, “Edge of Seventeen. Nicks will be going on tour with Fleetwood Mac for the first time in 17 years starting this September.

Nirvana, KISS, Peter Gabriel, Cat Stevens, Linda Ronstadt, Hall and Oates, the E Street Band, Andrew Loog Oldham and Brian Epstein are to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on April 10.
