Potential Targets: Paul Maholm

Target: Paul Maholm, LHP

2013 stats: 10-11 record, 4.41 ERA, 153 innings, 105 strikeouts with Atlanta Braves

Maholm battled injury problems in 2013 and was held to just 26 starts after making 31 in 2012 with a 3.67 ERA split between the Chicago Cubs and Atlanta Braves. Of course, as we've learned with guys like Ryan Dempster and Matt Garza in recent years, pitching in the National League and pitching in the American League are two different animals.

Maholm, who's a free agent, would give the Rangers another lefty starter after losing Holland for what is expected to be at least six months, but realistically longer. He's had a few good seasons, but his stuff isn't phenomenal, as evidenced by his borderline effective K/9 innings ratio of 6.2. But then again, the Rangers insist they aren't looking for a superstar pitching in the wake of the Holland injury, so Maholm would fit their mold just fine.
